| Monocoque (French for “single” [mono] and “shell” [coque]) is a construction technique that supports structural load using an object’s external skin. Monocoque construction was first widely used in aircraft and is now also used in high performance automobiles. Midnight Express is one of the few manufacturers who have brought this technology to the boating industry. Most other boat manufacturers use a 3-piece design with the shell of the boat composed of the hull, deck and liner. These components are often then pieced together via a variety of methods. These 3 separate pieces move relative to one another, reducing strength and stiffness of the overall boat. Midnight Express combines their decks and liners as a single piece that is then continuously bonded to the hull to create a single skin or shell that provides exceptional strength. This added strength improves performance by dramatically reducing flex while running in all sea states. The reduced flex improves the ability of Midnight Express hulls to cut through waves, increases their directional stability, enhances the efficiency of energy transfer from the propulsion system to the hull and improves safety. The Midnight Express Monocoque construction makes our boats stronger and quieter than the rest. The added performance and durability achieved by our Monocoque construction is another Midnight Advantage. |
