Midnight Express is one of the only boat manufacturers in its class to incorporate the latest in advanced technology CNC machines for the production of a significant portion of the elements that go into our boats. The abbreviation CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, and refers specifically to a computer “controller” that reads coded instructions and drives a variety of machine tools to fabricate components.
The introduction of CNC machines has radically improved the accuracy and quality of components in Midnight Express boats. Complex 3-D structures can be precisely produced, and the number of machining steps that require human action have been dramatically reduced.
A key area where CNC machines have allowed Midnight Express to gain advantages in our boat construction is the stringer system. The stringer system functions as the skeletal system of a boat. It is comparable in structure and function to the girders in a building. Airplanes also use stringers.
The stringer system performs the duty of preventing the skin from deforming and creating stress that would destroy the structural integrity of the hull system. The stringer system also provides a key anchoring system for other components such as towers. The programmability and precision of the Midnight Express CNC manufacturing system allows the stringers in our boats to be set up as an interlocking system that is then completely glassed over and bonded to the Monocoque hull structure. Since the stringer system is built as an interlocking network, it adds significantly to the strength of our boats, providing yet another Midnight Advantage.
